December 2010

30 December 2010

I've never photographed Dipper successfully before, being thwarted by poor light and a constantly moving bird! Got lucky this time in Cheddar where this one showed well and I managed to compensate properly for poor light. There were also at least two Chiffchaff present here.

28 December 2010

The Great Grey Shrike at Shapwick (top) and at least two Great White Egrets on the River Yeo in Cheddar. The French colour-ringed one has been around for some time.

12 December 2010

I haven't seen any photos of the Shapwick Heath Great Grey Shrike yet, not even rubbish ones - so here's one. It actually showed quite well this morning but whenever it was close it was completely silhouetted. It ought to be able to get much better than this with a bit of patience!

11 December 2010

I've never got close enough to Smew to photograph them before, so tipped off by Roger Halsey I tried for this bird at Cheddar Reservoir. It wasn't half as close as earlier in the day, sadly, and the light was terrible!

3-10 December 2010

At last I found some Waxwings right next to the office. These birds, numbering up to ten, remained at Third Way, Avonmouth all week.

5 December 2010

Most Black Redstarts at Brean Down Cover are so wary you can't get within half a mile of them. This particularly smart male, er, wasn't.

4 December 2010

Snow Buntings aren't usually a challenge to photograph and this one at Stolford was no exception. One day I might manage to make a Snow Bunting look interesting in a photograph - I don't seem to have managed it here!
