February 2010

20 February 2010

A trip to Gigrin Farm today, primarily for the Black Kite (top two) but the spectacle of Red Kites was far more impressive. We lucked into some stunning light, with snow on the ground and a blue sky it was, for once, far better to shoot against the sky. Being tightarses we used the cheaper 'public hides', and whilst it was slightly awkward to angle the camera upwards, I'm not sure we came away with any less goods photos.

Partly because I've not seen or photographed anything at all in the last few weeks, I thought I might as well stick this shot of a Cirl Bunting on. Taken in South Devon (no surprises there then!) after a visit to Paignton Zoo! Which incidentally has some flippin awful birds in cages - Lapwing, Stone Curlew and the saddest Hoopoe I've ever seen. Pointless.
